The history of KNON begins with our predecessor station, KCHU 90.9 FM. KCHU was an early community radio station started by Lorenzo Milam and Dennis Gross. Jeff K went from KNON to a successful radio career in Dallas Radio and as Public Address Announcer for the Dallas Stars and PA Announcer for the Dallas Cowboys.

THUD SLAP aired most Saturday afternoons on KNON 89.3 fm in Dallas, Texas from 1988 – 1990. The term “thud-slap” was used to describe the sound of the music; industrial dance, new wave, goth, ethereal, dark-wave, new beat, EBM, etc.

Tornado hit KNON on October 20th, 2019

On October 20th, 2019, KNON took a direct hit from an EF3 tornado that passed through Dallas, Texas. The station was knocked off the air and we were forced to relocate the entire KNON broadcast station and administration offices.
